SERP Preview Generator

See your Google result before it goes live

Paste in a title, description and URL to see your result on desktop and mobile. Each line is measured in pixels, the way Google does it, so you'll know if your title gets cut off.

Your meta description will appear here. Write one or two sentences that tell searchers what they will find on the page.

Widths are measured in Arial at Google's sizes. The limits (about 600 px for a desktop title, 920 px for a desktop description and 680 px for each on mobile) are estimates. Google may still rewrite what it shows.

Google shows your site name above the URL when it knows it.

Matching words show in bold, like they do in Google.

Checks

  • Title. Add a title to check its length.
  • Description. Add a meta description to check its length.
  • Keyword. Add a target keyword to see where it shows up.

How to use it

Since nothing you type leaves your browser, you can test titles for pages that aren't live yet.

01

Add your page URL

Paste the address of the page. The preview turns it into the site name and breadcrumb path Google shows above the title.

02

Write the title and description

Type them in, or paste what you have now. The preview updates as you type and cuts the text off where Google likely would.

03

Watch the meters

Each field shows its character count and pixel width. Green means it fits. Red means Google will probably cut it short.

04

Check mobile, then copy

Switch to the mobile view, add a keyword to see the bold words, then copy the finished tags or download them as an HTML file.

Questions about title and description length

Why does this tool count pixels instead of characters?+
Google cuts titles and descriptions based on how much room they take up on the screen. Wide letters like W and M use more space than narrow ones like i and l, so two titles with the same number of characters can get cut off in different places. Measuring pixel width gets you much closer to what Google will show.
How long should a title tag be?+
On desktop, Google shows about 600 pixels of title. That usually works out to somewhere between 50 and 60 characters. Put the words that matter most near the start, so they still show if the end gets cut.
How long should a meta description be?+
On desktop, Google shows roughly 920 pixels of description, which is about 150 to 160 characters. Mobile results often show less, closer to 120 characters. Google changes its layout from time to time, so treat these numbers as a guide.
Will Google always show the title and description I wrote?+
No. Google sometimes rewrites a title or picks different text from the page for the snippet, especially when it thinks other wording matches the search better. A clear, accurate title and description that fit the space make it more likely Google uses yours.
Why are some words in the description bold?+
Google bolds words in the snippet that match what the person searched for. Add a target keyword in the tool to see which words in your description would turn bold.
Is anything I type saved or sent anywhere?+
Nothing leaves your browser. The preview runs on your own device, so Growing Search never sees the titles or descriptions you test. Nothing is stored after you close the tab.
