Your schema code
{
"@context": "https://schema.org",
"@type": "Article"
}How to use it
Do one article at a time. Each post or page needs its own code.
01
Choose the article type
Article fits most pages. Use BlogPosting for blog posts and NewsArticle for news stories.
02
Fill in what you know
Add the headline, images, authors, publisher and dates. Any field you leave empty stays out of the code.

Test it in Google
Paste the code into the page's HTML. Once the page is live, run its URL through Google's Rich Results Test.
Common questions about article markup
What is article schema?+
Article schema is structured data that tells search engines a page is an article. It spells out the headline, who wrote it, when it came out and which images go with it. Google uses it to show the right title, image and date for the page in search results.
Should I use Article, BlogPosting or NewsArticle?+
BlogPosting and NewsArticle are more specific kinds of Article, and Google reads all three the same way. Use BlogPosting for blog posts, NewsArticle for news reports and Article for anything else. TechArticle suits technical how-to guides and ScholarlyArticle suits academic papers.
Which fields does Google need?+
Google doesn't require any single property for article markup. It recommends headline, image, author, datePublished and dateModified. Fill in as many as you can, as long as each one matches what's on the page.
Can I list more than one author?+
Yes. Add each author on their own row with their own name and profile URL. Google asks you to list authors separately and to put only the person's name in the name field, without a job title or a word like "By".
How should I write the dates?+
Use ISO 8601. A plain date like 2026-10-03 works. If you know the time, add it with a time zone, like 2026-10-03T09:00:00-04:00, so Google shows the right day for readers everywhere.
Where does article schema go on the page?+
Put the script tag in the article page's HTML, in the head or the body. On WordPress, an SEO plugin or a header and footer plugin can add it for you. Every article gets its own block of code with its own headline and dates.
Is Google reading the rest of your site?
Article markup only helps on pages Google can crawl and index. Our technical SEO work finds and fixes what keeps your pages out of Google, so more of them rank.
